IBM Chatbot Session

IBM Chatbot Session

Come around for a hands-on session on how to program your first chatbot with IBM.

Watson Conversation API makes it easy to build a bot. Watson combines a number of cognitive techniques to help you build and train a bot to automate conversation, all via simplified tooling that practically anyone can use. You can then deploy your Watson chat-bot via mobile device, messaging platform like Slack, or even through a physical robot.
With the IBM Watson™ Conversation service, you can create an application that understands natural-language input and uses machine learning to respond to customers in a way that simulates a conversation between humans.

Professional IBM trainer Peter Staubrandt will guide you through the process, and make sure you are on board even if you have no previous coding experience.
Please create IBM Bluemix account prior attending the workshop: https://console.bluemix.net/registration/
Bluemix has issues running on Safari, make sure you can use some alternative browsers, like Chrome or Firefox.

A body and mind-centric approach to Wearable Personal Assistants

A body and mind-centric approach to Wearable Personal Assistants

Tight integration between humans and computers has long been a vision in wearable computing. However, even recent wearable computers (e.g. Google Glass) are far away from such a tight integration with their users. In fact, while wearable computers in recent years have become smaller and closer to our bodies physically, to achieve a tighter man-computer symbiosis, we also need to tie the computer system closer to our minds. In this talk, I will discuss challenges of interaction with wearable computers and propose a conceptual model for integrating wearable systems into the human perception-cognition-action loop. I will also present my empirical study on design and evaluation of a Wearable Personal Assistant (WPA) for orthopedic surgeons on the Google Glass platform. Finally, I will show some examples of more futuristic interaction techniques that use involuntary eye movements as an implicit input to the WPA which opens new opportunities for unconscious interaction with WPAs and a tighter man-machine symbiosis.

Dr. Shahram Jalaliniya is a postdoctoral researcher at Computer Science and Media Technology Department of Malmö University, where he is a member of Internet of Things and People (IoTaP) research center. His research interests include interaction with wearable computers, eye-based interaction, multimodal interaction, pervasive computing, and Internet of Things. Dr. Jalaliniya has a PhD degree on Human-Computer Interaction from IT University of Copenhagen, he also has two master degrees in information systems from Lund university and in software and technology from the IT University of Copenhagen. He has been working in IT industry as IT consultant and project manager about 10 years before pursuing his research in the area of wearable computing.

Intro to Blockchain

Is bitcoin the better form of money? Is it trustworthy? What is the
difference between bitcoin and blockchain? These are some of the intriguing questions which we will look into. Raimondas will share some of his findings in simple & easy to understand terms and practical visualizations.

This is an explicit ASK ME ANYTHING session. That means that absolutely every question is welcome. We provide a safe environment so you can actually (!) understand what blockchain is all about. This type of event is suited best for beginners.

Raimondas Budvytis has no formal education or title to show.
Technology has broken down barriers and given access to information like never before. Raimondas has taken full advantage of these opportunities. Educating himself through online lectures about economics, the monetary system he learned especially about the cryptocurrency bitcoin as well as its underlying technology blockchain.

His sources of knowledge and inspiration are derived largely from: the american business magnate Warren Buffet, economist Richard Wolf, information security expert Andreas Antonopoulos and anthropologist David Grabber.

Breaking down gender bias: How technology can leverage diversity in hiring

Jenifer Clausell-Tormos has a PhD in Biohemistry and Technology Development from the university of Strasbourg, France. She has pursued her career as a scientific reseacher in Strasbourg, London, Madrid and Copenhagen. Her research focus has been over 10 years on drug discovery for biomedical applications using state-of-the-art technologies. Recently however, her passion for gender equality and diversity has shifted her research interest to cognitive theory of gender and gender stylistics. This has resulted in her becoming an entrepreneur and founder of "Develop Diverse" - a start-up with the mission to build software that removes gender bias and stereotyping occuring during the hiring process.
